Report 8/27/08: |
|
The 1st Annual Hot Wheels®
Summer Smash held by the Rhode Island HW's Club was a smashing
success (forgive the pun, I can't seem to help myslf these
days, lol.) |
| |
|
I must say out of all the conventions and shows I been to
since the mid 90's, this has to be ranked one of my favorites.
I was really impressed at the effort and hard work the staff
put into this event along with the hospitality and friendly
atmosphere. My hats off to Jim Lombardi and the great folks
of the East Coast for putting on such a fun and well organized
event. It sounds
Cliché, but these events are
always about seeing friends and meeting new ones! And
man, check out the aerial shot below: What a beautiful
state!

Update on that 'lil eBay auction:
We are extremely happy to contribute the full amount of the
auction in the tune of $1005.00 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in
Rhode Island. Below is the check presentation at the dinner
to Helen Vallee of Make-A-Wish (Thanks
Connie for the pics.)
A Special thanks to all who took interest in the auction
and participated in the bidding. During the week, we were
contacted by a website, toyfanz who monitors the
most watched auction in Toys/Hobbies category on Ebay.
The auction was ranked #1 on the list, with the closing
minutes of 153 folks who marked the auction in their
"watch list"... (who are these peeps? lol)

Take a good look at the "Auto-Stretch Rods" series produced by
M2. I was approached by this newly formed diecast
company to do some graphics on some of their cars. I was
quite honored to be part of their line and very impressed with
the quality of the diecast cars they produced. They
really know how to make a great product, and why not?
They have been in the industry for quite some time.
|
|
|
|
|
This line (the Auto-Stretch Rods) will have, of course,
diecast metal bodies and chassis, along with opening hood and
doors! They will come in many scales but the one shown
above is the 64th scale version and are about the same length
as the EVO's. I got word that there's a new shipment
going out and these will be available in the mass market at
Walmart and other retailers. Be sure to check them out
and add them to your collection. I am confident you will
enjoy these, they are that cool! |

Tues 07/01/2008, Check it out: Poker Anyone? I
took a few days off and flew into Vegas for the 2008
WSOP to enter one
of the more than 50 "Bracelet" events. With the amazing
"Poker Boom" from all the media coverages on television in the
last 4 years or so, it is amazing how everyone "views" poker these
days in a positive light. Back in 2002, I brought it up to
Mattel they should do a Charity Poker Event at the HW's Convention
and suggested the format for it. Not much came of it, but
the following year, the Charity Poker became a regular event at
the Conventions and Nationals and for a good cause, of which I was
very fortunate to win one (but would never mention it in Vegas,
lol). |
|
|
Anyhow, these WSOP
events is some serious poker since it is highly covered by
ESPN and is, if you didn't know, the most prestigious
tournaments in the world. It's awesome meeting and playing
with folks from all walks of life from around the world, and
seeing local poker friends I have not seen in a few years there as
well. It's amazing the turnout since the "Boom" for these
tournaments. All the Pro's, Celebrities, and Players are in
town to try and capture that elusive
WSOP Bracelet and
to enter also in the "Granddaddy" of all poker: Event 54
The Championship Main Event. |
|
|
My goal was to just make it to one of the tourney and "cash".
Event 52, 1500-No-Limit Holdem was not a surprise to me of the
turnout that would enter. About 2700 players started the
3-day event (including every top pro's who do this for a living),
and let me tell you, that number of 2700 entrants is HUGE!
Spread out over 3 humungous rooms, plus there's also other
tournaments going on at the same time, not counting satellites and
cash games. Well, I wouldn't be writing, but I'm ecstatic
that I survived the grueling 12 hour-Day 1, which means about 2500
are knocked out (which is typical for the first day) and the rest
are 'in the money' which was my goal since the WSOP and many other
poker sites keeps records
of your "cashes" in big tourneys.. |
|
|
Well, back to my first
WSOP, I most likely won't last too long today as I'm sort of
short stacked in chips, but I'm already very happy! You can
keep tabs on this event, we've been assigned new tables for day 2,
I'm table 5, seat 1:
Event 52, 1500 No-Limit Holdem ...Day 2 plays for the "Final Table"
to be played on Day 3. I'll update the result, which wont'
be long since I have a flight to catch!! lol |
|
(some pics from WSOP
website: "I'm so rusty, do I look like I'm Bluffin??? lol") |
|
 |
Recapping my result: placing 151st of 2693 entries. I am
more than happy and accomplished what I wanted. What a
blast! I would say my next goal would be a final table?? (I
wish! lol, but thats's the beauty of Poker is that anyone can win). For those who are poker enthusiasts, the hand I
busted out on was: I had
,
and proceeded to push all-in. Someone with a deep stack went
"over the top" of my bet and went all in as well. He had
,
so It was a "coin flip" with me having a slight edge going into
the flop. A lone ace hit the board on the flop and that was
it. It goes to show, you need to get lucky in certain key
spots
and continue to have luck on your side, along with winning your fair share of
coin flips to go deep into any tournament!! "but I'll be back!!" |

Product Descriptions:
Introducing the EVO SS Concept Drag Bus. This KUSTOMCITY®
- Dave Chang
Design™ Drag Bus that you see took well over 1 year to just get
it right to perfection.
Slowly but surely, from the
ground up, I had the pleasure of total creative control and
co-engineered every aspect and every part that you see, including
the exquisite, high-quality "diamond plate" display case that just
brings this top of the line adult collectible all together. These EVO's are
manufactured in our factory in China and will be produced in
"real" limited-edition numbers, only 984 total! And each
will be consecutive-numbered with it's very own "brush-metal",
"Seal of Authenticity" Collector Label
to distinguish and document each KUSTOMCITY®
EVO.
The "Artist's Proof Series" as shown will feature some of the
hottest talents with their artwork plastered all over the EVO's!
Each will be deco'd through the tampo (pad print) process.
Very much a Limited Edition Numbered Artist's Prints, thus the
"Artist Proof" Series. It's a mix of art on a diecast canvas.
